Based on the Umm al-Qura calendar. The month is confirmed by moon sighting, so the date in your country may be one day later. Each Islamic night begins at sunset, the evening before the day with the same number.
When is Laylat al-Qadr?
The Prophet ﷺ said: “Search for the Night of Qadr in the odd nights of the last ten days of Ramadan” (Sahih al-Bukhari 2017). He used to spend the last ten nights in i‘tikaf and tell people to look for it then (Sahih al-Bukhari 2020).
The 27th is not confirmed. Many hope for the 27th, and some Companions held that view, but the authentic instruction is to seek it in all the odd nights of the last ten. Don’t rest your whole effort on one night.
Better than a thousand months
“The Night of Decree is better than a thousand months. The angels and the Spirit descend therein by permission of their Lord for every matter. Peace it is until the emergence of dawn” (Quran 97:3–5). Whoever stands in prayer on it with faith and hoping for reward has their past sins forgiven (Sahih al-Bukhari 1901).
The dua for Laylat al-Qadr
اللَّهُمَّ إِنَّكَ عَفُوٌّ تُحِبُّ الْعَفْوَ فَاعْفُ عَنِّي
Allāhumma innaka ‘afuwwun tuḥibbul-‘afwa fa‘fu ‘annī: O Allah, You are Pardoning and You love to pardon, so pardon me. The Prophet ﷺ taught it to ‘Aisha for this night (Jami‘ at-Tirmidhi 3513, graded sahih). Full page: Laylat al-Qadr dua.
