In short: A man asked the Prophet ﷺ who most deserves his good companionship. He said: “Your mother.” Then who? “Your mother.” Then who? “Your mother.” Then who? “Your father” (Sahih al-Bukhari 5971).

The hadith

Abu Hurayrah reported that a man came to the Prophet ﷺ and asked who among people was most entitled to his best companionship. The Prophet ﷺ answered “your mother” three times, and the fourth time “your father” (Bukhari 5971).

Why the mother three times?

Allah reminds us of what a mother carries: “His mother carried him, weakness upon weakness, and his weaning is in two years. Be grateful to Me and to your parents” (Quran 31:14).

What we can do

  • Call her today. Not later.
  • Make dua for both parents: the dua for parents from Quran 17:24.
  • Good company means patience, gentle words and time, not only gifts.
