Allahumma Barik Meaning

Allahumma barik means “O Allah, bless (it)”. It is a short prayer (dua) asking Allah to put blessing (barakah) in something or someone, often said when admiring a person’s child, achievement or possessions.
Allahumma barik lahu, laha, lahum and fihi
The ending changes depending on who or what you are praying for:

Why Muslims say it: the hadith
A companion once admired another man so openly that the man fell ill. The Prophet ﷺ asked why anyone would harm his brother, and said that when someone sees something they like in their brother, they should pray for blessing for him (Sunan Ibn Majah 3509, graded sahih). Saying “Allahumma barik” is a way of doing exactly that, instead of only praising.
When to say it
- When you see a friend’s new baby, home, car or success.
- When complimenting someone’s appearance or talent.
- At weddings and other celebrations, as a prayer for the couple or family.
It is often said together with Mashallah or “Tabarak Allah” (blessed is Allah).
