Alhamdulillah ala Kulli Hal Meaning
All praise is for Allah in every situation. The meaning, Arabic, when to say it, and its source in the Quran and Sunnah.
الْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ عَلَى كُلِّ حَالٍ
- Transliteration
- Al-ḥamdu lillāhi ʿalā kulli ḥāl
- Meaning
- All praise is for Allah in every situation
Alhamdulillah ala kulli hal means “all praise is for Allah in every situation”. Muslims say it when something hard happens, to show contentment with Allah whatever comes.
A believer wins either way
The Prophet ﷺ said: how wonderful is the affair of the believer; there is good for him in everything. If something good happens he is grateful, and that is good for him; if something bad happens he is patient, and that is good for him (Sahih Muslim 2999).
About the narration
A narration in Sunan Ibn Majah (3803) says the Prophet ﷺ used these exact words when he saw something he disliked. Its grading differs: Darussalam grades it weak, so we don’t rely on it here. The meaning itself is supported by the authentic hadith above, and by “All praise is for Allah, Lord of the worlds” (Quran 1:2).
