Fi Amanillah Meaning

In Allah’s protection. The meaning, Arabic, when to say it, and its source in the Quran and Sunnah.

فِي أَمَانِ اللَّهِ

Transliteration
Fī amāni-llāh
Meaning
In Allah’s protection

Fi amanillah means “(go) in the protection of Allah”. Muslims say it when someone is leaving or travelling, as a short dua for their safety.

Is it from a hadith?

The phrase “fi amanillah” itself is a common Arabic farewell, not a quoted hadith. The authentic farewell dua from the Sunnah is:

أَسْتَوْدِعُ اللَّهَ دِينَكَ وَأَمَانَتَكَ وَخَوَاتِيمَ عَمَلِكَ

Astawdiʿu-llāha dīnaka wa amānataka wa khawātīma ʿamalik: I entrust to Allah your religion, your trust, and the last of your deeds. Ibn ‘Umar used to say this to people setting out, as the Prophet ﷺ had said it to him (Sunan Abi Dawud 2600, graded sahih).
